Police arrest alleged thieves targeting parked vehicles

Two men in their 20s are facing charges after police followed up on a call about two suspicious men on Emma Street in Chatham.

Police said an officer on general patrol found the men on Florence Street shortly after midnight and learned that they had allegedly rummaged through a vehicle on St. Clair Street and another one on Llydican Avenue.

Investigators said one of the men also had some property on him that was allegedly taken from the vehicles.

As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested and charged with one count of possession of stolen property and two counts of theft. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

A 23-year-old Chatham man was also arrested and charged with two counts of theft. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

Car, RV reported stolen in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips as they try to track down a pair of vehicles that were stolen sometime over the past week.

Police said sometime earlier this week, a 31-foot 2004 Four Winds RV was stolen from a compound at St. Clair Estates in Chatham.

The RV was last seen with Ontario license plates CHFZ 817 and is valued at $35,000. You can find a picture of the vehicle below.

In a separate investigation, police are looking for a red 2008 Chevrolet Malibu with personalized license plates 2MNYIRNS from a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

It was reportedly taken sometime between 9:45 a.m. and 10:40 a.m. Wednesday.

Damages estimated at $50k after crash

Only minor injuries are being reported, but the damages are extensive after a two-vehicle crash on Canal Street near Ella Street in Tilbury.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday, adding that the damages are estimated at $50,000.

Two people were taken to the hospital for treatment.

A 78-year-old Leamington man was charged with disobeying a stop sign.

Multiple suspects arrested on outstanding warrants

The long arm of the law has caught up with a number of local suspects wanted for a wide range of offences.

A 39-year-old Chatham man who was wanted for break and enter and robbery at a residence in Chatham last week was arrested Wednesday afternoon. He was taken into custody and held pending a bail hearing.

A 32-year-old Walpole Island man who was wanted in connection with a theft from Walmart in Wallaceburg and for failing to attend court was also arrested on Wednesday. Police said he was later released with conditions and a future court date.

A 39-year-old Chatham man who was wanted in connection with a fraud investigation was arrested Wednesday night. He was charged and released pending a future court date.

A 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old man -- both from Wallaceburg -- were arrested after police received a complaint about a vehicle driving erratically in Wallaceburg.

An officer on general patrol pulled over the vehicle and learned both of the men were wanted in connection with a break-and-enter investigation in Wallaceburg.

The accused were both charged and released with conditions and a future court date.
