Man charged with trying to disarm an officer 

A 40-year-old man is charged with multiple crimes including trying to disarm a police officer on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.

Police said at around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning, an officer on general patrol observed a man riding a bicycle with no light, which is a criminal offence. The officer stopped the man and through investigation, learned that he was currently bound by a curfew.

"As the officer placed the man under arrest, he became combative and pulled away in an effort to resist arrest," police said in a statement. "The man then grabbed the officer’s holster. The officer used pepper spray to gain control of the man and effect the arrest."

After searching the man, police also allegedly found some methamphetamine in his possession.

The man is charged with violating a probation order, resisting arrest, trying to disarm a peace officer, failing to comply with his release conditions, and drug possession.

Man charged with alleged drug possession for purpose of trafficking  

Police seized cocaine, a scale, plastics bags and a cutting agent during a traffic stop in the area of Poppe Road in Tilbury.

A 39-year-old was allegedly found with the substance and items on Tuesday night when police located a man and his vehicle.

The man was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Accused shoplifter arrested

A 32-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with theft under $5000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000.

The charges were laid after police responded to a report of a suspicious man on Ascot Court in Chatham.

Officers located the man and through investigation learned that he was wanted in connection with a shoplifting incident at TSC.

The man was arrested and upon being searched, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

The man is also charged with failing to comply with his release conditions by being in possession of methamphetamine and drug possession.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Three young men wanted for theft 

Police are reminding residents to lock their doors after some loose change, Oakley sunglasses, gift cards, two spare sets of keys and cell phone chargers were stolen.

Investigators said at around 3 a.m. on July 12, three young white men were allegedly observed in the Landings neighbourhood -- they are all wanted in connection with the investigation.

The first suspect was last seen wearing grey Roots pants, brown shoes, a black long sleeve shirt or sweater with a red logo on the front and dark ball cap. He was tall with a thin build.

The second suspect was last seen wearing dark shorts, a dark long sleeve shirt or sweater and dark running shoes. He also appeared tall with a thin build.

The third suspect appeared to be wearing dark pants and a long sleeve shirt.

No injuries related to Tuesday motor vehicle collisions  

Thousands of dollars worth of damage is being reported after two separate crashes in the region.

Both collisions occurred on Tuesday in Chatham-Kent.

Police responded to the first two-vehicle collision on Bloomfield Road near Richmond Street in Chatham.

In that case, $30,000 of damage was reported and a 49-year-old man was charged with proceeding on a red light.

First-responders attended the second collision Middle Line near Wheatley Road on Tuesday afternoon. The total estimated damage was $10,000 and a 25-year-old woman was charged with failing to yield the right of way.

$8000 in damages after car hits a deer

A driver was not injured after a collision on Reeders Line near Kenesserie Road.

It occurred around 4:45 a.m, on Wednesday. That's when police responded to the scene.

The driver of the car was not injured.

There is no word on the state of the animal.

Damages are estimated at around $8,000.
