Woodbridge Foam spending $100M for upgrades provincially

Workers at an auto parts plant in Blenheim may see some new technology in the near future.

Woodbridge Foam, a company that makes seats for various different auto manufacturers, is spending $100 million toward different projects and plant upgrades in Ontario.

"We are not at a point where we know how much will be invested in each facility," said Nilesh Soni, the company's vice-president and general manager of interior parts and assembly. "We are a very proud Canadian company and we want to continue to... drive our global excellence."

Blenheim's plant is one of five Woodbridge Foam locations in Ontario. The others dwell in Kitchener, Whitby and Woodbridge. The company's headquarters are in Mississauga.

The company is currently undertaking different projects, said Soni, who could not disclose details what the company is working on.

He said the investment is exciting.

"[The funding] is important because it helps us drive excellence, in both from a product innovation and technology innovation," said Soni. "It can also cause competitiveness that would keep us on the leading edge."

Blackburn News attempted to contact the UNIFOR 127 committee-person for comment on what the investment would mean for Blenheim workers, but did not hear back by the time of publication.
