Building of pipeline expansion set to begin in Chatham-Kent

Enbridge Gas says construction on its $19.1 million pipeline expansion project will begin shortly.

The company is touting an expansion project which aims to bring natural gas to remote communities in the region. The municipality is on the hook for $500,000 of the total cost.

"This project will invest in much needed natural gas infrastructure to unlock over $260 million of development potential in Chatham-Kent and surrounding areas,” said Steven Jelich, southwest region operations director at Endbridge. "We’re looking forward to serving the needs of these new and growing commercial and industrial customers in the Chatham-Kent area.”

The project includes a 13-kilometre pipeline, eight inches in diameter, that begins at Enbridge Gas' Simpson Road Station near Tupperville, heads south between Base Line Road to the end-point. The pipeline will end near the intersection of Base Line Road and Kent Bridge Road, east of Dresden.

The expansion plan also includes a 500-metre, 12-inch diameter pipe near Dover Centre.

Construction will begin later this month and the pipeline will be in service by the end of 2019.
