The Chatham-Kent Fire Department is reminding people of the importance of smoke alarms after a family narrowly escaped a house fire early Saturday morning in Chatham.
The flames broke out around 5 a.m. at a residence on Given Road. Fire officials said that people inside the house were woken up by the sound of smoke alarms.
Two adults and a child were able to escape the blaze uninjured.
Four fire stations attended the scene to help put out the flames. Damage costs and the cause of the fire have not yet been provided.
