Hot, humid conditions to return this week

Those enjoying a reprieve from last week's extreme heat may soon be disappointed.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent ahead of a "heat event" that is expected on Wednesday and Thursday.

Daytime high temperatures are forecasted to reach around 30 C with humidex values in the high 30s. Nighttime won't provide much relief from the heat either, with overnight low temperatures expected to be near 20 C. As well, further hot and humid conditions are expected to continue throughout the weekend.

The weather agency said young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working outdoors are the most at risk when the temperature rises.

"Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place," Environment Canada said in a statement. "Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle."
