Drunk driver facing charges 

A 40-year-old man is charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit after he was pulled over just outside of a bar parking lot in Chatham.

Police said he pulled over on St. Clair Street at around 1 a.m. Tuesday after an officer on general patrol saw him swerving down the road a short distance away from the establishment.

The accused was arrested and taken to police headquarters for breath tests. He was later released from custody and will appear in court on July 9.

Police looking for leads in alleged storage unit theft 

An alleged weekend break-in at a storage unit on Grand Avenue in Chatham is sending police out searching for the suspects.

Police said it's believed someone cut the lock off a storage unit and once inside, stole various items worth up to $4,000.

Alleged jewellery theft

A family on Pine Crest Road has lost upwards of $5,000 after an alleged jewellery heist.

Police said the theft could have occurred sometime within the last month.

Two drivers arrested for having suspended licences, wrong plates

Chatham-Kent police pulled a pair of vehicles off the road Monday night after a two licence plate checks turned up suspended drivers.

Police said the first vehicle, a blue GMC Jimmy, was stopped at around 7:30 p.m. on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg after a quick check showed the licence plates were registered to a yellow GMC Canyon.

The driver, a 31-year-old Walpole Island man, was arrested and charged with driving while under suspension, using plates that weren't authorized for the vehicle, and failing to provide an insurance card.

A couple of hours later, at around 9:30 p.m., police spotted a black Ford F-150 on Jeanne Street in Wallaceburg and conducted a licence plate check, which showed the plates were registered to a grey GMC Envoy.

Police said the officer initiated a traffic stop on Agnes Street, but the driver allegedly kept going until he eventually pulled into a driveway on Elgin Street.

As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with using plates not authorized for the vehicle, failing to provide an insurance card, and two counts of driving while under suspension.

Both of the vehicles that were pulled over were towed from the scene and impounded as per the vehicle impoundment program.
