UPDATE: 61-year-old man charged after rollover on Highway 401

A 61-year-old man from Tecumseh has been charged after a crash on the Highway 401 that sent two passengers in an armoured truck to the hospital.

In a statement on Wednesday, Ontario Provincial Police said James Liddy is charged with the operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, and impaired driving with a blood alcohol concentration of over 80 milligrams after the passenger vehicle he was driving collided with a Brinks company truck.

The charges stem from a collision that occurred just before 2 p.m. on Friday. Police and EMS arrived at the scene on the westbound Highway 401 on-ramp at Communication Road near Blenheim to find a Brinks truck had rolled into a ditch. Two people who were in the truck at the time of the crash were taken to an area hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The man who was driving the passenger vehicle involved in the crash has had his license suspended and the car has been impounded, as per the Highway Traffic Act, said police.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham on July 5, 2019.
