Swerving, speeding vehicle leads to impaired driving charge

A 54-year-old Tilbury man is charged with impaired driving after an officer allegedly spotted him swerving in his own lane while also speeding down Wheatley Road.

Police said an officer on general patrol recorded the man's vehicle going 121 kilometres per hour in a posted 80 km/h zone on that road at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

It's alleged that as the officer went to turn around, the driver also passed another vehicle, almost hitting it in the process.

The officer pulled the driver over and believed he was under the influence of alcohol, so he was taken back to police headquarters for breath tests.

The accused was later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and driving while disqualified. He was then released with conditions and a future court date.
