Driver charged after hitting pedestrian

A Wallaceburg woman has been charged after hitting a pedestrian with her car while backing out of a driveway.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said it happened as the pedestrian was riding a scooter along Wellington Street. The person operating the scooter suffered minor injuries and was taken to Sydenham District Hospital.

The driver of the car was charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

Her name was not released by police.

Stolen vodka leads to arrest 

A woman who's accused of stealing vodka on earlier this month has turned herself in.

The theft was reported to police on Saturday when the thief entered a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham on June 8.

The suspect was identified via surveillance video and police were called.

On Wednesday, the woman turned herself in at police headquarters and was subsequently arrested for theft under $5,000.

The 23-year-old Chatham woman will appear in court on July 3, 2019.

Police are not releasing the identity of the accused.

Police nab lottery ticket thieves 

A 35-year-old Wallaceburg woman who was found hiding in a closet was arrested for allegedly stealing a large number of lottery tickets.

Chatham-Kent police were made aware of the theft on June 2 and after a week of searching, officers said they have found one of the parties responsible at approximately 11:34 p.m. Wednesday.

Police are continuing to look for the other man involved.

The woman was arrested for theft and will appear in court on July 5.

Chatham driver arrested in Lambton Shores

A 36-year-old Chatham woman is facing two impaired driving charges after police received a complaint about a possible impaired driver in Lambton Shores.

Lambton OPP said the woman was pulled over by Anishinabek Police in the area of Lakeshore Road at approximately 11:45 p.m. on June 7 and held until provincial police arrived.

After speaking with the driver, police determined that the woman was showing signs of impairment, so she was taken back to the Lambton OPP detachment for breath tests.

She was charged with two impaired driving offences and later released with conditions and a future court date.
