Man returns home to find an uninvited guest stealing from him

Chatham-Kent police are looking for a suspect after someone broke into a home on Elizabeth Street in Chatham and took off with some jewelry and electronics.

Police said the suspect took off after he was confronted by the homeowner, who returned home Tuesday morning to find a man in his residence carrying a bag.

Officers searched the area but came up empty.

Impaired driving charge laid after crash

A 25-year-old Thamesville woman is charged with impaired driving in connection with a two-vehicle crash in Morpeth.

Police said they were called to the scene at Hill Road and Talbot Trail shortly after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, adding that through their investigation, officers believed one of the drivers was under the influence of alcohol.

The driver was arrested and taken back to police headquarters for breath tests before she was later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and then released pending a future court date.

Bike with no light tips off police to suspect

If you're riding around on a bike without a light after dark, you're bound to catch the attention of the local police force.

Chatham-Kent police said that's what happened just before 2 a.m. Wednesday, when an officer on general patrol spotted a man riding a bicycle without a light on King Street West in Chatham.

Police said the officer who stopped the man learned he was allegedly breaching his curfew condition.

When the man was searched, the officer allegedly found a backpack with some wire cutters, pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, flashlights, a multi-tool, and a utility knife. The man also allegedly had some methamphetamine and some heroin on him.

A 37-year-old Chatham man was charged with drug possession, possession of break-in instruments, and two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Argument leads to broken coffee table, charges

Two people have been arrested after police responded to a disturbance call Tuesday night involving a man and a woman on Park Street in Chatham.

Police said through their investigation, they learned that the pair had been arguing when the argument took a violent turn, leading to a coffee table in the living room being broken.

A 34-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with assault while a 31-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault, mischief, and resisting arrest.

They were both taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Wanted woman arrested in Wallaceburg

Chatham-Kent police are giving credit to an "observant citizen" for tipping them off to the location of a woman who was on the local force's Wanted List.

Police said they got the call Tuesday afternoon after the woman was spotted outside of a store in Wallaceburg.

She allegedly took off running after police responded to the area, but officers were able to track the woman down a short time later and arrested her.

Police said she was wanted in connection with a shoplifting incident at Home Hardware in Dresden that took place back in March and she was also wanted by OPP.

The accused was released with conditions and a future court date before being turned over to OPP for court purposes.
