Beer sales for a good cause

The Children's Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent is getting a funding boost thanks to a local brewery.

On Wednesday afternoon, Sons of Kent Brewing Company in Chatham presented the Children's Treatment Centre with a cheque for $2,432.

The donation came from proceeds raised by the sales of a limited edition pineapple craft beer that the brewery crafted specifically for the cause.

"Children's Treatment Centre is one of the number one things that we believe in here so it was cool," said Sons of Kent owner Colin Chrysler. "I'm also the brewer so to get a chance to make a cool, different beer was a lot of fun and people really enjoyed it."

The unique beer flavour was produced for the Festival of Giving on April 13, and sold for a month after that at the brewery's Adelaide Street South location. Chrysler said giving back to the community and supporting local is one of the main objectives for the business.

"We're a local brewery first and foremost. We're here for Chatham, our name Sons of Kent is for Chatham-Kent. We believe that our brewery is built on our community," he said.
