An alleged drug dealer has been arrested after a police search in Shrewsbury turned up some powdered fentanyl.
Officers with the Chatham-Kent Police Service Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant on Thursday and found more than nine grams of powdered fentanyl, some digital scales, and more than $5,000 in cash.
The estimated street value of the fentanyl that was seized is $5,580.
Officers arrested a 50-year-old woman from Peel Street in Shrewsbury in connection with the case. She was charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking and later released with conditions and a future court date.
Police said opioids -- including fentanyl -- "continue to be a real danger to the community" adding that "the risk to anyone exposed to this substance is extremely serious and potentially deadly."
