Solar panel stolen from CK Transit shelter for second time this week

The CK Transit shelter is dealing with its second case of vandalism this week.

A solar panel was stolen on Wednesday from the shelter located across from the Chatham Cultural Centre.

Police are reminding residents that only one company, Mountain Shelter Solutions, should be installing, removing, or conducting general maintenance on solar panels at the shelter.

If anyone has any information about this recent theft or witnessed any suspicious activity, please contact Chatham-Kent Police Services immediately.

Arrest made after scrap metal stolen from dumpster, trailer

A 30-year-old Chatham man has been arrested after some scrap metal was reported stolen from a local heating and cooling contractor.

Police said they got the call Thursday morning after someone had raided a garbage dumpster at QPS Mechanical Contractors on Hart Place in Chatham and removed some scrap metal from inside the bin. Investigators believe the same person also cut a lock off of a trailer at the site and stole some scrap steel from inside.

Officers were able to identify a suspect and arrested him.

The accused is now charged with mischief, theft, and possession of stolen property. He was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Rifle reported stolen from vehicle

Chatham-Kent police are working to track down a .22 calibre camo Ruger rifle that was stolen from a parked vehicle in Chatham.

Police said someone smashed the window of the vehicle early Thursday morning in order to get inside and then took off with the rifle, which was also in a case.

Teen charged with stunt driving

A 17-year-old from Dover Township will have to hitch a ride with her family and friends for at least the next week after she was stopped for excessive speeding.

Chatham-Kent police said the teen was charged with stunt driving after officers pulled over a vehicle that was recorded going 147 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on Bear Line Road Wednesday afternoon.

The teen's driver's licence was also suspended for seven days and the vehicle was impounded for a week.

Lawnmower stolen from Chatham home

Police are working to track down a green Honda lawnmower that was stolen from an unlocked shed on King Street West in Chatham.

Officers said it was taken sometime between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 2 p.m. Thursday. Whoever took off with the mower also stole a red 3-gallon jerry can.

Prescription drug drop-off this weekend

Chatham-Kent police will be hosting a Prescription Drug Drop Off Day at three different locations around the municipality on Saturday.

You can drop off your old and unused medication at any of the following locations between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on May 11.

- Shopper’s Drug Mart – 30 McNaughton Avenue, Wallaceburg

- Chatham-Kent Criminal Courthouse – 425 Grand Avenue West, Chatham

- Shopper’s Drug Mart – 20 Mill Street, Tilbury

‘Shred It’ will also be at the Courthouse accepting papers, books, DVDs, CDs etc for a fee of $10 per banker's box.

All of the proceeds from that will go to Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers.
