Third annual hike for hospice sprints to $145K

A Chatham-Kent fundraiser showed that exercising is good for your heart in more ways than one.

Over 900 people participated in the third annual Hike for Hospice, resulting in the organization raising $145,000.

“We are overwhelmed and truly grateful for the amazing turn out at this year’s Hike for Hospice. Thank you to everyone who participated as a runner, walker, or donor. Your support allows Hospice to continue to offer end-of-life care to families when they need it the most," said Jodi Maroney, executive director for the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation.

Prizes were broken up into three categories ranging from the individual who raised the most money to the business that raised the most money. There was also a prize for the top family team.

The winners were:

  • Jennifer Wilson - Individual winner
  • Lou's Crew - Top family team
  • Kent & Essex Mutual Insurance - Corporate challenge winner.
For the past three years, Chatham-Kent Hospice has cared for almost 600 families from across the municipality, according to a news release from the foundation.
