Man charged with assaulting woman

A Thamesville man is once again in trouble with the law after assaulting a woman.

The 29-year-old had a brush with the law in July 2018 after several domestic-related offences. He was released with conditions.

Two months later, in September, the man was caught breaching the conditions and arrested. He was released again on a recognizance which included not communicating with the victim of the domestic incident.

On Thursday he breached his conditions and attended the woman’s house. While there he assaulted her and stole her phone.

Officers arrested the man and charged him with assault, theft under $5,000 and two counts of breaching recognizance. He was transported to the police station and held for a bail hearing.

Car break and enter in Chatham

Police are hoping to locate the person responsible for breaking into a car in Chatham this week.

The owner of the car went to the police station on Thursday to let them know that her car had been broken into on Tuesday night on Barclay Street.

She said the suspect smashed the rear passenger window and got away with a purse containing personal documents and some change.

The purse was recovered a short distance away with only a small amount of change missing. Damage to the car is estimated at around $400.
