Break-in at the Downtown Chatham Centre

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after someone broke into the mall in downtown Chatham and stole some items from the Virgin Mobile kiosk.

Officers said they got the call at around 3:30 a.m. after an alarm went off.

Man charged after domestic dispute

A 30-year-old Walpole Island man is charged with assault and mischief after an argument with his girlfriend allegedly took a nasty Tuesday night.

Police said while the pair was arguing, the incident allegedly escalated into a physical altercation, during which the man grabbed his girlfriend's cell phone and broke it after she tried to call police.

Officers said the woman then ran to a neighbour's house to ask for help.

The accused allegedly took off before police could arrive, but officers were able to track him down just before midnight and arrested him. He has been charged and held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested on outstanding warrant

The law has caught up with a 24-year-old Wallaceburg man who allegedly skipped his court date back in March.

Officers said they found the man Tuesday night and arrested him on an outstanding warrant. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Easter Food Drive

Chatham-Kent police are asking for the public's help to fill an emergency vehicle on Saturday at the Sobeys in Chatham.

Police said all of the donations will go directly to a local food bank to help those in need.

Prescription Drug Drop-off

Residents who have prescription drugs to get rid of are encouraged to take them to a designated drop-off location on May 11.

The drop-off event will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Chatham Court House, the Shoppers Drug Mart at 30 McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg, and the Shoppers Drug Mart at 20 Mill Street in Tilbury. The Chatham location will also have a "Shred It" event where personal paperwork will be shredded at a charge of $10 a banker box.
