Wanted man arrested in Chatham

A 38-year-old Chatham man who was wanted by police in Chatham-Kent and Stratford has been arrested.

Police said they caught up with him Sunday morning after learning that he had allegedly breached his probation order.

When officers were searching the man, they also allegedly found some methamphetamine on him, which is a violation of his release conditions.

After the man was arrested and charged, he was turned over to Stratford police where he was also wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Man charged with theft

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a 63-year-old Dresden man who was allegedly spotted trying to steal some barrels from a garage near Wallaceburg.

Officers said they made the arrest after getting a tip from an observant citizen Sunday afternoon.

The accused was arrested, charged with theft and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Driver hits parked vehicle

A 28-year-old Jamaican man is charged with careless driving after a parked vehicle was hit by another vehicle in Chatham Sunday night.

Police said the vehicle that was hit was on Gray Street in Chatham, adding that the damages are estimated at $10,000.

No injuries were reported.

Man charged with domestic-related offences

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a Chatham man after receiving some reports of domestic violence on Friday.

Police said the incidents allegedly took place between the man and his girlfriend over the course of their relationship, adding that officers were able to locate the accused Sunday night and arrested him.

A 22-year-old Chatham man is charged with assault with a weapon and two counts of assault and has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Traffic enforcement slows down several drivers

Chatham-Kent police are issuing some written reminders to drivers that they need to slow down.

Officers said over the course of just an hour and a half, they stopped five motorists in Charing Cross Sunday morning and charged them with speeding.

Police also patrolled Middle Line, but they didn't see any speeders at that time.
