Students across CK join together in protest of education changes

Hundreds of Chatham-Kent students walked out of class Thursday in protest of changes being made to education by the Ford government.

Demonstrations were held across the province, but the main assembly locally was outside Chatham-Kent Secondary School where students held signs and could be heard chanting "hey hey, ho ho, Doug Ford's gotta go."

The majority of cars that passed by honked in support of the students, whose signs had messages like "someone who I didn't vote for is ruining my future" and "the only thing I want back from the 90s is the Spice Girls," in reference to Ford's plan to bring back the old sexual education curriculum.

The protest was organized at the high school by Emma Kathleen and Zoë Boonstra who asked other schools in the municipality to join. Students from Ursuline College Chatham were also out protesting but their crowd wasn't quite as big.

The walkout began at 1:15 p.m. and while it was originally scheduled to end at 1:45 p.m., some students stuck it out a bit later.
