Scholarship named for Ken Houston

A scholarship for local graduating high school students has been created and named after late NHLer Ken Houston.

Family and friends of the Dresden resident formed a committee and raised funds to create the Ken Houston Memorial Scholarship Award, which will be handed out for the first time this year.

The $1,000 scholarship will be given to someone that spent their formative years in the Dresden Minor Hockey system and is graduating from high school to continue their education.

The successful candidate should show a passion for hockey, be driven with a strong work ethic. He or she should have a solid moral compass and be a leader on and off the ice. They should also be community minded and show the spirit of giving back. They should have a strong respect for their peers, coaches, and teachers while earning that same respect back.

Interested students are asked to write a 500-word essay on why you would receive the award, and include two references. They can be emailed to Dave Cameron acecam5@hotmail.com.
