Chatham-Kent police are displaying a large number of items that were stolen from grave sites at the Maple Leaf Cemetery in Chatham as they work to return them to their rightful places.
Police said they recovered the items after following up on several complaints from Chatham-Kent Cemetery Operations staff about thefts of brass vases and plaques at the cemetery in Chatham's southeast end.
Officers were able to identify a suspect in connection with two of the thefts and he has since been arrested and charged. Police said the other theft investigations are ongoing.
All of the recovered items have been returned to the Cemetery Operations Office and anyone who believes that a gravesite of a loved one was victimized at Maple Leaf Cemetery is urged to contact that office at 519-360-1998. Anyone with information on any of the thefts is asked to contact Constable Mark VanderGreindt at markvan@chatham-kent.ca or 519-436-6600 ext. 293.
