911 hang-up leads to impaired driving, assault charges

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man and a woman in connection with a domestic incident after responding to a 911 hang-up call.

Police said the investigation started when someone placed a 911 call from a local woman's cell phone Thursday night, adding that when the dispatcher called her back, the woman was "uncooperative in providing any information."

An officer followed up on the call to make sure the woman was alright and spotted her pulling into her driveway while responding to her address on Queens Line.

The officer who saw her suspected the woman had been drinking alcohol, so she was given a roadside test, which she allegedly failed. After that, the woman was taken back to police headquarters for further testing.

Police later learned the woman had been involved in a domestic dispute earlier in the evening.

As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old woman is charged with impaired driving, assault, assault with a weapon, and two counts of uttering threats. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A 37-year-old Chatham man was also arrested in connection with the case. He is charged with breaching his probation order by communicating with the woman and was later released with conditions and a future court date.
