Bothwell man wins SUV in Roll Up the Rim contest

He may not have driven away in his new Jeep Compass on Tuesday, but the papers are officially signed for a local man to receive his Roll Up the Rim grand prize.

Ken Bedford and his wife Randelle posed for pictures beside the same model of Jeep Compass he won from a Tim Hortons cup during the nationwide contest. The Bothwell man spoke about when it first happened and said it was just a regular Saturday on March 2. He went to his local Tim Hortons at the Naahii gas station in Moraviantown to grab a coffee for himself and an Iced Capp for Randelle, then went back to his garage.

"I was doing what all good Canadians were doing and rolling up the rim," Bedford said. "Of course you look at it and when you see it you just say 'No, no, this can't be.' I did a little Icky Shuffle out on the garage floor and looked at it again and hollered at my wife to come and see."

Randelle said her first reaction to Ken calling her to the garage was the same as what many wives would have.

"I said if it's another coffee or a doughnut then I'm not interested," Randelle said. "He said 'you have to look at this' and I said 'no, this isn't right. Really!' Then I said 'congratulations you won a Jeep.'"

Ken said it comes at a perfect time because the couple was thinking of getting an SUV anyway. The two recently moved from southern B.C. where they don't get nearly as much snow and ice. He added the winter in Chatham-Kent kind of caught them off-guard so they thought a bigger vehicle that could handle the elements was in order.

"This has just fallen into our lap and now things change," Ken said. "We are looking forward to actually getting it when it shows up."

The retired veteran said according to the papers he signed, it will take up to 90 days to be delivered because the Jeep comes with so many bells and whistles McNaughton Dodge Chrysler didn't have one on the lot. He was able to hop in the model brought for the photo opportunity and said it felt very comfortable and something he could definitely get used to.
