TekSavvy looks to hire through job fair

A Chatham-based internet provider is looking to add more people to its team.

TekSavvy is holding a job fair on March 7 at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre in Chatham.

Jeremy McCarthy, TekSavvy’s director of video product management and marketing, said there isn't a set number of job positions available as it does depend on the response they get from applicants. However, there is a wide range of positions that need to be filled.

"We've got jobs in IT or in our research and development team, so these are the guys who build our internal tools. We've got some people on our NOC team -- our network operations centre -- so this is the 'backbone' of TekSavvy," he said. "Coming up in the next couple of months, there should be some new positions within the marketing team and maybe even in the human resources team as well."

McCarthy said the recent launch of TekSavvy TV does have a hand in the need to hire more people, especially since the company looks to expand throughout the province -- and in Quebec as well.

"A job fair is a great way for us to reach out to people in town and get them to learn more about TekSavvy and kind of explain what we're offering," he said. "I think we offer something really exciting [for] people who are looking for a new challenge."

In terms of how to stand out in a list of applicants, McCarthy said they are looking to hire people who are energetic and willing to help customers.

"People who have that ability to make sure that our customers are looked after and get whatever they need from us is certainly one of the major things that we're looking for," he said.

The job fair on March 7, will take place during two sessions. The first session will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the second session will take place from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
