Woman wins $5K at Wallaceburg Tim Hortons

It's been a lucky decade for coffee drinkers in Chatham-Kent and 2019 is keeping the "rim" rolling.

Paula Grail owns the Dufferin Avenue Tim Hortons in Wallaceburg and officially announced Thursday that the location gave out a cup worth $5,000 for the company's Roll Up the Rim to Win contest. Grail said the coffee was purchased last week and was confirmed to be the winner of a $5,000 prepaid CIBC Visa card on Wednesday.

"It was fantastic and everyone is just overjoyed with excitement," Grail said. "There are only 100 given out across Canada so it's pretty amazing to get one in the little town of Wallaceburg."

Grail would only identify the winner as a woman and added she doesn't know the details of where the woman actually rolled up the rim and found out. While the odds might suggest this would the biggest prize Grail's store has given out, it is the second major prize redeemed at the location since 2011.

"We've actually had a car winner in Wallaceburg [in 2011]," Grail said. "It was so exciting and went to such a deserving person. It's a great story because her car was falling apart and she didn't have money for a new one so it was just a fantastic person that it went to."

The municipality has hosted two other big winners over the past few years, too. The Park Avenue location in Chatham sold a Honda Civic winning cup in 2016 and a $5,000 prepaid Visa card just last year.
