Pair Charged with Theft

Usually, thieves try to steal smaller, concealable items when in a public area but two people in Chatham were allegedly caught trying to take a 65" T.V. from a department store.

Police said they responded to the shoplifting complaint at Walmart Thursday night.

Officers allege a man exited the store with a 65" RCA 4K television, making no attempt to pay for it. They added a woman was waiting for him in a vehicle in the parking lot.

Police were able to get their physical descriptions and the vehicles license plate. An officer on patrol stopped the vehicle at Charing Cross Road and Middle Line and arrested the pair. The T.V. with a value of roughly $900 was recovered at that time.

A 35-year-old Harwich Township man and a 22-year-old Chatham woman were charged with theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Both were released pending a future court date of March 20.

Theft of Motorcycle

A motorcycle was reported stolen in Chatham Thursday.

Police said it was taken sometime between 5 p.m. Wednesday and 5:30 a.m. Thursday. According to officers, an unknown amount of suspects allegedly stole a 2005 black Harley Davidson Softail Night Train from a parking lot on Sheldon Avenue. The bike, with an unknown value, was last seen with Ontario license plate 3L0E1.

Theft of Gas in Wallaceburg

Police are looking for a man who allegedly pumped and dashed from a gas station in Wallaceburg.

Officers said the incident happened on Wednesday at around 2 p.m. where the unknown man pumped $45 worth of gas into his vehicle at Macs Milk and drove off without paying.

Fail to Remain Collision in Chatham

Police are asking for a woman to turn herself in after allegedly leaving the scene of a collision she was involved in.

Officers said the incident happened in a parking lot on St. Clair Street Thursday at around 12:30 p.m. Police added the woman allegedly struck a parked vehicle with her red Dodge Caravan, which should have visible damage to the passenger side rear bumper.

Chatham-Kent police are asking the woman to identify herself.

Update: Man Charged with Fraud Related Offences

Police have identified a man at the centre of a fraud investigation that started earlier this year.

Officers said they asked for help identifying a man in connection with a fraud investigation involving a local business in Chatham on January 9, 2019.

Police added the man was identified and arrested earlier this week. A 30-year-old Chatham man was charged with fraud-related offences and released pending a future court date of March 5.

Woman Charged with Driving while under Suspension

A complaint led to a teen getting charged for driving with a suspended licence.

Police said they responded to the traffic complaint Thursday morning in the area of Baldoon Road and Keil Drive North in Chatham.

After investigation officers said an 18-year-old Chatham woman was charged with the infraction and her vehicle was towed and impounded for a week. She is required to attend Provincial Offences Court on March 26.

Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE)

It seems people driving through Chatham are staying sober.

Police conducted a RIDE spot check on Lacroix Street in Chatham Thursday night. They said seventy-five vehicles were stopped with fifteen roadside breath tests conducted and no infractions reported.
