Maroons stumped by Strathroy 5-4 in double-overtime

The Rockets, with a playoff spot clinched, currently hold the seventh seed in the GOJHL Western Conference standings with 34 points. Chatham is in third place with 55 points.

Chatham cracked the scoreboard late in the first period as Deni Goure put in the puck. With the first-intermission lead 1-0 Maroons, they outscored Strathroy 15-10 in the period.

In the middle frame, the Rockets tied the game at 59 ticks in with a goal by Lucas Fancy. Both teams then exchanged a goal each for a 2-2 score after 40 minutes of play. Maddux Rychel regained the lead for the Maroons at 6:39, but Fancy struck again on the power play just over three minutes later.

Rychel scored again early in the third period for a 3-2 Maroons lead, but the Rockets scored back-to-back to take their first lead of the contest. Liam Israels provided another tying goal, then T.J. Harris scored with an extra-man advantage at 8:33. Dane Johnstone's power-play tally forced the overtime period.

Each team had one shot in the first overtime. Wood's game-winner was scored at 3:23 of the second overtime.
