Flyers take first, clip Maroons 4-1

Adam Jeffrey had two assists for the Leamington Flyers in their 4-1 win over the Chatham Maroons Sunday afternoon at Memorial Arena.

The Flyers leapfrog the idle London Nationals to take first place, for the moment, in the GOJHL Western Conference standings, with 60 points. Chatham is in third place with 53 points.

It was a scoreless contest until late in the first period, when the Flyers scored on a goal by Ryan Gagnier, on the power play at 17:40. The Maroons, however, led the frame in shots-on-goal by a 9-7 margin.

Colton O'Brien's goal early in the second period doubled the Leamington lead to 2-0, then Dane Johnstone put the Maroons on the board with his fourth goal in two nights. The Flyers held a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

The third period was all Leamington, as they added back-to-back goals from Rory DeNiro and Cameron Armstrong.

Ryan Polidori stopped all but one of the 34 shots the Maroons fired his way in the Flyers' goal. Tristan Lewis had 20 saves for Chatham.

Leamington travels to LaSalle on Wednesday night, while the Maroons next host the Komoka Kings on Thursday night.
