TekSavvy starts internet-based TV service in CK

A Chatham-based internet provider is launching a new TV service.

TekSavvy and its affiliated cable company Hastings Cable Vision launched TekSavvy TV Friday morning. The new TV service is run through an app and starts with a basic set of channels, which customers can add to with additional theme packages.

TekSavvy's Director of Video Product Management & Marketing Jeremy McCarthy said, for now, it's only available in Chatham-Kent.

"Chatham is our home and we are part of this community and love being part of this community," said McCarthy. "Even though we have our sights set on going across Canada, we wanted to start it here and get something out to our consumers here."

McCarthy said the service is TekSavvy's answer to the calls they've been receiving every month for an alternative, value-based TV service. It will offer access to over 100 HD channels for sports, movies, series and kids programs -- including on-demand content from selected TV channels.

"We've just started -- this is the first incarnation of TekSavvy TV," said McCarthy. "What's really cool about TV is that it's an evolving product -- we're always going to be changing it, updating it, making it better... we want to listen to our customers so that we know what they want."

Customers in Chatham-Kent who want to order the service can sign up through TekSavvy's MyAccount portal at myaccount.teksavvy.com. It's currently only available as an app for Apple TV, Android TV, and Amazon Fire Stick.
