Maroons defeat Vipers 8-3

Nolan Gardiner led the Chatham Maroons to an 8-3 victory over the LaSalle Vipers on Thursday.

Gardiner scored for Chatham just over a minute into the first period, but AJ Ryan and Zane Dalpe both scored to give the Vipers a 2-1 advantage early in the frame. However, Dane Johnstone and Griffin Robinson scored another two goals for the Maroons to take the lead heading into the second.

Robinson scored his second of the night 8:13 into the second, and Matt Carvalho kept on Chatham's heals by scoring one for the Vipers less than two minutes after. Eddie Schulz scored late in the frame to give Chatham a 5-3 lead.

Gardiner scored his second goal of the game 10:06 into the final frame and the Maroons and Craig Spence scored another with 2:01 left in the game. Gardiner scored again seconds later to complete a hat-trick and cap off Windsor's win with a five-goal lead.

Chatham goalie Tristan Lewis made 34 saves, while LaSalle goaltender Will Tragge made 29.

The Maroons are back on the ice on Saturday when they head to Komoka to battle the Kings at 7:15 p.m. And then on February 6, the Vipers return home to play the Leamington Flyers at 7 p.m.
