Wanted man spotted sleeping in a car

A suspicious persons call in Chatham ended with an arrest Tuesday morning after police found out he was wanted for domestic-related offences.

Police said they found the man while they were responding to a call about a suspicious person sleeping in a car on Balmoral Road in Chatham.

Officers said the man falsely identified himself at first, but police were able to figure out who he really was and arrested him on an outstanding warrant.

The accused was charged and taken to the courthouse in Chatham pending a bail hearing.

Tools stolen from home near Lake Erie

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips as they investigate a break-in and theft at a home under construction on Seventh Street in Harwich Township.

Police said it took place sometime between Sunday and Tuesday, adding that whoever broke in took off with a DeWalt DW745 table saw, a mitre saw, two 20v DeWalt drills, a Schlage brass deadbolt, and four light fixtures.

The total value of the stolen items is estimated at $3,000.

Two arrests on outstanding warrants

Two local men in their 20s were arrested on outstanding warrants Tuesday.

Police said a 24-year-old Chatham man who was wanted for failing to attend court back in September was picked up in Wheatley, charged, and released from custody with conditions and a future court date.

In a separate incident, a 27-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested after police received a report of a suspicious man at the Walmart in Chatham.

Police said the man was wanted for failing to comply with his probation order, theft, possession of property obtained by crime, and failing to attend court. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
