Assault charge laid after mailbox threat

A 35-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly threatening a local motel manager while holding a metal mailbox.

Chatham-Kent police said that happened Wednesday night.

Officers were called to the scene for a report of an unwanted man at the motel and learned through their investigation that not only had the man allegedly threatened the manager, but he was also breaching several of his release conditions.

The accused was arrested, charged, and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Charge laid after crash in Chatham

A 66-year-old Tilbury man has been charged in connection with a crash that sent a local woman to the hospital.

Police said the man is accused of running a red light at the intersection of Grand Avenue and St. Clair Street in Chatham at around 3 p.m. Wednesday, which caused a two-vehicle crash at that intersection.

A 73-year-old Chatham woman was taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance as a precaution after the crash.

The damages are estimated at $6,000.

Tools stolen from garage in Wheatley

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for help as they work to track down a suspect and some Milwaukee brand tools that were stolen from a garage on 1st Concession Line in Wheatley.

Police said the tools were taken sometime either late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, adding the total value of the theft is estimated at $2,200.

Electronics stolen during break-in

Police are looking for leads as they investigate a break-in on McNaughton Avenue West in Chatham.

Officers said someone broke into a residence on that street Wednesday afternoon and stole an iPad, a black Toshiba laptop, and a black Hipstreet tablet.

The stolen items have a combined estimated value of $1,600.
