Maroons lose to London 6-2 Sunday

The London Nationals overcame a slow start against the Chatham Maroons Sunday night.

The first-place Nationals scored five straight goals to beat the Maroons 6-2 at Memorial Arena. London now has 55 points in the GOJHL Western Conference, while Chatham is in third with 47 points.

Wes Dobbin scored first for the Nationals at 4:43 of the first period. The Maroons responded by scoring two goals and taking a first-intermission lead. Dawson Garcia scored the tying goal exactly one minute after the Dobbin score, and Darby Lemieux scored the go-ahead goal later in the period.

The Nationals fought back with three unanswered goals in the middle period. Christian Polillo tied the game at two-all at 8:36, then Noah Tooke's power-play goal gave the Nationals a 3-2 lead. Zach Sheedy added another power-play goal before the end of the frame for a 4-2 London advantage.

Josh Castle and Isaiah Payne had the remaining goals for London in the third period.

Jukka Schotter had 28 saves out of 30 shots in goal for the Nationals. Tristan Lewis took the defeat for the Maroons and stopped 29 shots.

London hosts Strathroy on Wednesday night. The Maroons are off until next Sunday night when they host the Leamington Flyers.
