Rose Beach Line closed until 2020

A section of Rose Beach Line near Rondeau will be closed throughout the year, as an environmental assessment (EA) is not set to be complete until 2020.

In November 2018, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent issued a statement that the slope/bank failure along Rose Beach Line would need to be assessed, however, a timeline could not be set. In its most recent update, issued Thursday, the municipality stated that the EA for Rose Beach Line will continue in 2020 once a study is complete in regards to the Lake Erie Shoreline.

"The Chatham-Kent Lake Erie Shoreline Study, which is currently underway, will investigate the magnitude and intensity of historical storms on Lake Erie throughout all of Chatham-Kent as well as assess the effects of climate change and future storms that have the potential to cause additional erosion and flooding along the Lake Erie shoreline," the municipality said in the release.

Once the EA for Rose Beach Line and the study for the Lake Erie Shoreline are complete, a solution will be developed to address both projects.

"This will allow for correlation and consistency with the recommended solution(s) for Rose Beach Line and the overall direction for the Lake Erie Shoreline," the municipality said.

Rose Beach Line between Antrim Road and New Scotland Line will remain closed, which has already stirred frustration among local residents.

Although there is no detour route posted for the closure on Rose Beach Line, the alternative route is Talbot Trail and Kent Bridge Road.
