Woman Charged with Driving & Drug Offences

A woman who evaded police two weeks ago was found Sunday afternoon allegedly in possession of methamphetamine.

Police said they attempted to pull the woman over on December 29 because her license was suspended due to unpaid fines. Officers said instead of stopping, she allegedly sped up and drove carelessly through Dresden. A warrant was issued for her arrest. According to police, officers located her Sunday and found her to be allegedly in possession of crystal methamphetamine.

The 30-year-old Walpole Island woman was charged with driving while under suspension, careless driving, flight from police, and drug possession.

She was released pending a court date February 7.

Stolen Car in Chatham

Police are reminding the public to keep an eye on their vehicle if they are warming it up this winter after an idling car was stolen Sunday.

Police said the theft happened just before 1 p.m. when an unknown number of suspects stole a light green 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis from a driveway on Grand Avenue East in Chatham. Officers said the car had tools and an air compressor inside. Police added the vehicle was last seen with Ontario licence plates BXZA 278.

Police said thieves see idling vehicles as easy targets.

Break and Enter in Chatham Township

A truck, laundry equipment, and tools were reported stolen after a break-in over the weekend.

According to police, the incident happened between 4 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. Sunday morning on Countryview Line. Officers said an unknown amount of suspects forced their way into a residence and allegedly stole a grey 2001 GMC Denali with Ontario license plates BNFX 655. A dryer and tools were also reported stolen.
