Maroons crown Kings 5-2

The Chatham Maroons took a big lead early on their way to a 5-2 win over the Komoka Kings Sunday night at Memorial Arena.

The Maroons scored an unanswered pair of goals in the first period. Griffin Robinson's power-play goal got Chatham on the board at 4:26, and Evan Wells doubled the Maroons lead just before the first intermission.

Chatham added two more goals in the second stanza. Dane Johnstone's first goal made it 3-0 in favour of the Maroons, then Sean O'Brien added an unassisted goal. Komoka goalie Nathan Young was pulled for backup Owen Say after the Johnstone score.

Johnstone scored his second goal, a shorthanded one, in the third period to extend the lead to 5-0, but Komoka's Cameron Krupa scored back-to-back before the end of regulation.

Adam Harris faced 46 shots in goal for the Maroons, stopping 44. Young and Say combined for 30 saves for the Kings.

Both teams hit the road on Thursday night. Komoka visits Sarnia while Chatham is in Leamington. Puck drop for the latter game is at 7:10 p.m. and all the action can be heard on CFCO Country 92.9FM/AM 630.
