Charges laid after assault at Dresden high school

A brutal assault captured on video has led to an assault charge against a young person.

Chatham-Kent police said a youth was arrested and charged after the incident at Lambton Kent Composite School in Dresden. The 16-year-old is charged with assault causing bodily harm. Police said the victim was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Social media exploded Tuesday after a video of the assault was posted on Facebook.

While the post has since been taken down, Blackburn News was able to obtain the video. The nine-second recording shows one student punching another several times, then stomping on the victim twice. After originally posting the video in this story, Blackburn News has decided to take it down at the request of the Lambton Kent District School Board, because the video was taken on school property and the people in the video are minors.

The accused student was released to a parent pending a future court date. Police added neither student can be identified because they are minors.

The Lambton Kent District School Board would only confirm that an incident happened at one of its schools and Board officials are cooperating with police, but wouldn't comment any further.
