Creating a home -- away from home for the holidays

The holiday season is most typically spent with loved ones, however, there are sometimes barriers that prevent that from happening.

To help patients at the Chatham hospital stay connected with family members, the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) and the Chatham Comfort Inn have once again partnered together for the "Room at the Inn" program. The initiative was offered last year as well so that people from out of town visiting patients can have a complimentary stay.

"Being away from home during the Christmas season may not be a choice," said Sheila Bateman, general manager of the Comfort Inn. "We offer these accommodations to help bring families together during the holidays. It can be a difficult time when a family member is ill. Getting a good night's sleep is most helpful for patients' families."

The program runs from December 24 until December 26. Reservations can be made by calling (519) 325-6400. The complimentary stay is only for those visiting from outside of Chatham-Kent.

The Comfort Inn is located at 1100 Richmond St. in Chatham, just a few minutes away from the hospital located on Grand Avenue West.
