Fifth Street Bridge construction pushed back

Lane restrictions will continue throughout the new year on the Fifth Street Bridge.

The bridge was closed for nearly a year as it underwent a reconstruction that began in summer of 2017. It was reopened in June of 2018 with the exception of one of the two northbound lanes.

The second northbound lane was previously scheduled to be reopened by the fall of 2018, but municipal officials now say the lane will remain closed until the spring of 2019.

Fibre optic internet lines are currently being installed in the area and, according to the municipality, the construction delay is a result of the utility company being behind schedule in the installation of the lines.
