Chatham-Kent police had their hands busy with a couple of stolen vehicles on the weekend.
Around 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, a man and woman in a red SUV pulled up next to an unlocked truck that was running in front of a home in the Maples subdivision in Chatham. The owner was just meters away when the man allegedly jumped into the truck and took off.
The pair were identified and the truck was located by OPP in Belle River just after 6 p.m. A 33-year-old Windsor woman was arrested at a pizza place in Belle River just before 8 p.m. During her arrest, police found a stolen credit card from Chatham on her, and a stolen vehicle permit for a truck in Bothwell.
She was charged with theft of a vehicle, two counts of possession of stolen property, possession of a stolen credit card, and attempted theft. Police are still searching for the 38-year-old man.
Then just after midnight Monday morning, an officer saw two people in a vehicle parked in a driveway on Riverview Drive in Chatham. When the officer turned around to investigate, the pair sped off and drove into a field just off Riverview Line near Dillon Road.
They attempted to flee on foot, but K9 Arry was called in and found them hiding in a nearby barn. The vehicle they were in was stolen from a home in Chatham on Friday.
The 37-year-old man and 22-year-old woman, both from Chatham, were arrested and charged with theft of a vehicle and being in possession of stolen property. The woman was in possession of methamphetamine and also charged with drug possession. The man was also charged with outstanding warrants and failing to comply with a curfew.
