CK ATV Club raises over $15K in food donations for community

The local ATV club is thanking Chatham-Kent for helping them stock 10 food banks and soup kitchens for the holiday season.

The Chatham-Kent ATV Club held its second annual Feed the Hunger food drive on Saturday and is calling it a massive success.

According to the club's president, Vince Masse, the community really came through this year.

"We brought in quite a bit of food," Masse said. "I originally estimated it as about $10,000 worth. After doing some shopping online and seeing how much some of the canned goods are actually work, I'd say it is closer to $15,000 of food was handled Saturday."

Masse said on top of the physical food, the group was accepting monetary donations through a GoFundMe page. He said after site usage fees, they will have an additional $2,000 to buy even more food.

"We will be able to do the 10 local food banks and soup kitchens we wanted to," Masse said. "We have already delivered to six of them and will get to the other four tomorrow."

Masse added it was a big improvement over last year when they were only able to help stock eight food banks and kitchens throughout the municipality. He said it was very important for the club to get to every town in the municipality this year.

The president said plans are already underway to do it all over again.

"We are already discussing how to make it bigger and better next year," Masse said. "It will be interesting to see how we can top it."
