Polar Plunge returns to CK

Jumping into freezing cold water may seem crazy, but it has become a very popular way to raise money for charities.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) will host the second annual Freezin' for a Reason!, Polar Plunge on January 19, 2019. The event is open to anyone willing to get chilly and raise money for Special Olympics Ontario.

Last year the CKPS set a goal of $10,000 and ended up raising over $14,000. This year the bar is set at $20,000.

Anyone wishing to sign up for the plunge or donate can visit the Polar Plunge website. There is also an option to dare a friend for those who might need a little extra motivation to get involved.

According to a CKPS release, there will be two plunges on January 19, both at St. Clair College Thames Campus in Chatham. The first jump will be at 2 p.m., followed by an evening plunge at 6 p.m.

There will also be prizes for people who raise the most money, but they haven't been determined yet.

Police Chief Gary Conn reluctantly confirmed he will be taking the plunge again this year.
