Maroons double up Vipers 4-2

The Chatham Maroons scored three answered goals to close out a 4-2 win over the LaSalle Vipers Sunday night at Memorial Arena.

The Maroons have 26 points in the GOJHL Western Conference, second place behind the London Nationals. The Vipers are in sixth place with 17 points.

Each side scored a goal each in the first period. The Maroons got on the board first on a Dane Johnstone goal at 4:45. LaSalle evened things up later in the period when Evan Ferguson found the net.

Both teams exchanged a single goal again in the middle period. The Vipers took the lead at 15:40 on a power-play goal by Gianluca Pizzuto. Chatham got that goal back when Jake O'Donnell tied the game again with 24 seconds left in the frame.

The Maroons picked up on the momentum and scored back-to-back goals in the third segment. Deni Goure scored what would become the winning goal, then Maddux Rychel added insurance with an empty-netter at nine seconds remaining in regulation.

Adam Harris faced 19 shots in goal for Chatham and stopped 16 of them. For LaSalle, Will Tragge had 16 saves between the pipes.

The Vipers next hit the ice Wednesday night when they host the Leamington Flyers. The Maroons hit the road on Thursday as a guest of the Sarnia Legionnaires. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. and all the action can be heard live on CFCO Country 92.9FM/AM 630.
