Salvation Army gearing up for Christmas

With Christmas just around the corner, the Salvation Army of Chatham-Kent is looking for toy donations.

"It's hard to tell right now, but we'll probably put together around 300 toy hampers this year," said Captain Karen Holland. "That's a lot of toys, so we could really use help in collecting up some toys for these children."

Toy donations can be dropped off at the Salvation Army in Chatham, Wallaceburg, or Ridgetown by Monday, December 10.

The red kettles also just went out at eight locations in Chatham as the Salvation Army tries to raise $500,000 by Christmas.

Captain Holland is very hopeful that they will reach that goal.

"Knowing that all the money that is raised in this area stays in this area to help out our neighbours and those who need assistance throughout the year. So people seem to really come together when it comes to things like that."

The red kettles go out in Wallaceburg on Thursday, November 22 until Christmas Eve. Then they go out in Blenheim from November 28 until December 8, and Ridgetown from December 10 until Christmas Eve.
