Maroons dominated by St. Marys 7-3

Jake O'Donnell scored twice, but the Chatham Maroons faltered 7-3 to the St. Marys Lincolns Sunday night at Memorial Arena.

Despite the loss, the Maroons remain in second place with 24 points, seven behind the London Nationals in the GOJHL Western Conference standings. The Lincolns pull even with the LaSalle Vipers in seventh place with 15 points.

Cayse Ton helped the Lincolns crack the scoreboard first with a goal at 18:35 of the opening frame. The Maroons came back with two goals in the second period. O'Donnell scored the equalizer at 1:38, then Eddie Schulz provided the go-ahead goal later in the segment to give the Maroons a 2-1 second-intermission lead.

The Lincolns pulled even early in the third period with a power play goal by Blair Butchart, then Ton put St. Mary's in the lead 3-2 with his second goal of the game. O'Donnell's second score of the contest at 3:28 evened things up at three-all, but Butchart scored again exactly a minute later to put the Lincolns ahead for good. Joe Mazur scored two more for St. Marys while Josh Martin threw one in of his own before the end of regulation.

Justin Richer took the win for St. Marys, with 41 saves in goal. Tristan Lewis was handed the loss for the Maroons. He stopped 33 shots.

St. Mary's is back in action at Strathroy Saturday night. Chatham travels to LaSalle Wednesday to take on the Vipers. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. and all the action can be heard live on CFCO Country 92.9FM/AM 630.
