CK police introduce new scholarship program

Local high school students planning on going to post-secondary school next year have a chance to earn some tuition money from the police.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service is introducing the Public Safety Scholarship for students graduating in the spring of 2019. The program challenges graduates to submit a video addressing one of the three pillars of commitment to the community.

According to a release from the detachment, students are asked to create a video that addresses road safety, mental health or property crimes. Police said the video must be maximum three minutes long, can be in either French or English and students can only submit one video per category.

The top video in each category will get a $1,000 scholarship towards education at any post-secondary level. Police added winning videos will be presented at the Chatham-Kent Police Services Board and showcased during Police Week in May next year.

Officers said the initiative will allow students to have their voices heard about what concerns them and allow them to be part of the solution.

Deadline for submissions will be Friday, March 22, 2019 at 12 p.m.

Videos containing or referring to anything crude, vulgar, obscene, sexually explicit, discriminatory, offensive or illegal will not be accepted. Police added videos cannot contain, depict or refer to any irresponsible behaviour, risk to personal safety or damage to property.
