The stretch between Morpeth and Rondeau was closed earlier this week because of erosion from Lake Erie along the edge of the roadway. Although there is no detour route posted for the closure, the alternative route is Talbot Trail and Kent Bridge Road.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent issued a release Wednesday afternoon, stating that the slope/bank failure along Rose Beach Line is being evaluated as part of an Environmental Assessment (EA) process.

The EA is being led by an engineering consultant hired by the municipality. Following the assessment, a preferred option to resolve the issue will be posted online for feedback in either late November or early December. A final report will then go to the municipality for council to vote on.

"The road closure was implemented as a result of this slope failure and in the interest of public safety," as stated in the release. "All properties in proximity to this road closure will still receive the same level of service with respect to snow clearing and garbage collection."

Since the project has to go through various stages, a timeline for when the road will reopen has not been set.
