Chatham man charged after crash

A 78-year-old Chatham man is charged with making an unsafe turn after a crash that sent three people to the hospital.

Chatham-Kent police said two vehicles were involved in the crash at the intersection of Pinehurst Line near Lakeview Drive at around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

One of the drivers and a passenger were treated for their injuries and then released, but the other driver was transferred to London for further treatment of undisclosed injuries.

The damages are estimated at $25,000.

Teen girl accused of assaulting her grandmother

Chatham-Kent police have arrested an 18-year-old Chatham girl who allegedly assaulted her own grandmother.

Police said that happened Wednesday morning after the teen showed up at her grandmother's home in Chatham, asking for assistance.

An argument broke out, at which point, police said the teen allegedly assaulted her grandmother and damaged her vehicle.

Officers arrested an 18-year-old Chatham woman Thursday morning in connection with the case, charged her with assault and mischief, and took her to the courthouse for a bail hearing.

Woman charged with assaulting ex-husband

Chatham-Kent police have charged a 47-year-old woman with two counts of assault after an argument got physical early Friday morning.

Officers said they arrested the woman after police were called to a residence in Wallaceburg at around 1 a.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance.

Police said while they were investigating, they learned that it wasn't the first incident of domestic violence, either.

A 47-year-old Wallaceburg woman was arrested, charged, and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Suspicious person call leads to arrest

A 32-year-old Chatham man is facing a number of charges after police got a call about a suspicious person in Blenheim early Friday morning.

Police said they got the call just before 5 a.m. after someone saw some suspicious activity on Lanz Boulevard in Blenheim.

The officer who went out to investigate the tip found a vehicle with its interior light on, its console open, and some items were strewn about it.

A few minutes later, the same officer saw a man running on Bailey Court nearby and arrested him.

Police said the man who was arrested had a backpack full of bolt cutters, various tools, a garage door opener, a GPS, an orange Motor Master vehicle code reader, and some heroin.

The owner of the vehicle that appeared to have been broken into was also later able to identify a number of the items that were recovered by police.

A 32-year-old Chatham man is now charged with possession of break-in tools, theft, possession of stolen property, trespassing, and two counts of breaching probation. He was being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
