Teen charged after alleged assault

A 14-year-old Chatham boy is charged with assault after an incident during a school lunch break.

Chatham-Kent police said the charge was laid after a "physical altercation" broke out between two students from a local high school Tuesday morning.

The accused has been released with conditions and a future court date.

Out past his curfew

Chatham-Kent police arrested a man overnight after stopping a cyclist who didn't have a proper light with him.

Police said the man they stopped was riding a bike on the sidewalk along Queen Street in Chatham at around 3:45 a.m. Wednesday.

After speaking with the man, the officer who stopped him learned that he was out past his court-imposed curfew of 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

An 18-year-old Chatham man is charged with failing to comply with his release conditions and has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Wanted man turns himself in

Police didn't have to venture very far to find a man who was wanted in connection with a shoplifting incident at Walmart in Wallaceburg earlier this month.

Officers said a 28-year-old Chatham man turned himself in early Wednesday morning on an outstanding warrant for theft and possession of stolen property.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Speed enforcement comes up empty

Chatham-Kent police said officers didn't see anyone speeding along Talbot Trail in Port Alma Tuesday morning.

Officers had set up there to conduct speed enforcement.

Police are still reminding drivers to obey the posted speed limits when travelling through small towns and villages.

Tools stolen from Chatham home

Police are investigating after someone broke into an unlocked home on Harvey Street in Chatham and took off with thousands of dollars worth of Black & Decker and DeWalt tools.

Officers said it happened sometime between 5:30 p.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The total value of the theft is estimated at $3,250.

Thieves target building under construction

Police are appealing to the public for tips as they try to solve a break-in at a building under construction on King Street West in Chatham.

Investigators said someone forced their way into the building sometime between 6 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday, causing about $200 in damage.

Police said it's believed that whoever broke in also stole a Bosch hammer drill, a Makita screw drill, and a DeWalt screw drill.

The total value of the theft is estimated at $1,600.

#LittleHeroes Halloween Costume Contest

Chatham-Kent police are putting the call out for kids who are dressing up like police officers for Halloween to submit their pictures for a photo contest.

All of the photos will be entered into a draw for a chance to win a tour of police headquarters along with a meet and greet with either Chief Gary Conn or an officer from the K9, Critical Incident Response Team, or Traffic Unit.

Police are asking anyone participating to upload their photo on Twitter and mention @CKPSmedia using the hashtag #LittleHeroes or send them a message on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ckpolice/.

Anyone participating should also include their first name and hometown.
