Trick-or-treating for food donations

Make sure you have some non-perishable food items next to the door for Halloween.

A number of Chatham-Kent students will be out trick-or-treating for donations instead of candy for We Scare Hunger in a number of communities.

"It's mainly in Chatham, but we also have Blenheim, Tilbury, Wallaceburg, and Pain Court," said Ursuline College student Christine Van Nooten.

Students from UCC, John McGregor, St. Ursula, and St. Joseph in Chatham will be wearing name tags as they go around. The donations will go to the local food banks.

"Really any donation is wanted, anything like non-perishable food items, toiletries, just stuff like that," says UCC student Megan Gooch.

Gooch said most people are happy to see them when they knock on their door.

"Most houses know what we're doing, this is our 13th year now, so we've really established what we're doing. Last year we had thousands of food items, it's awesome to see November 1st, all the cans we've collected."

The students will be out Halloween night from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on October 31.
